Knitting..

is an activity that requires a lot of time, some level of focus, but not quite 100% attention. Knitting is what one does to make a glove, a hat, a sweater. My grandma used to knit to pass time, and everyone in the family was stocked with mittens as a result. Knitting can be frustrating if one has to undo a lot of work because of that wrong knot that went unnoticed two rows ago. But in general, knitting is pretty compatible with watching TV or having a conversation.

In my brother's world, knitting is the process of translating ideas and algorithms into a programming language, spitting out lines of code one after another, function header, curly brackets, statements, loops, semicolons. Not all programming qualifies as knitting, and certainly there are programming tasks that require one's full brainpower and then some.

Put your head phones on and do it.
